Did you mean GOLD or…?

MMORPG games have stood out for content that brings players together and encourages cooperative play. Sometimes this content is PvE, sometimes PvP, and other times WvW or Guild vs Guild. As the game evolves, new content is introduced, but certain features remain indispensable for players. In Guild Wars 2, the content that stands out the most and retains a large player base is open-world events and world boss metas. These take the top spots.

Let’s remember that under the PvE heading, we are discussing PvE content. PvP and WvW are completely separate worlds, each with its unique content, as I have emphasized in all my articles.

Dungeon System in Guild Wars 2

Let’s talk about the dungeon system in our game. Back before the Fractal system was introduced or before it took its current form, dungeons already existed.

What do dungeons offer? What will I gain from doing a dungeon?

For new players, many questions may arise. First, I want to clarify this: the rewards from dungeons are unfortunately not equivalent to those from Fractals, Strikes, or Raids. I say this with some regret.

That said, ArenaNet has made adjustments to stabilize this situation, and I want to thank them for that. While dungeons are no longer as popular as before, occasional Dungeon Rush events bring the old dungeon days back to life. Players participate in these events for achievements and gold rewards.

Questions & Answers

1. Why should I do dungeons?

Answering this question makes it easier for us to explain. At the simplest level, a player might enter a dungeon out of curiosity, especially if they are new. Story lovers can explore the content within.

There are eight dungeons in the game. Each dungeon has three paths aside from its exploration mode, which may not change the dungeon itself, but offers 24 different paths in total. Completing each path grants a unique achievement.

Another reason is social: playing with friends. After completing daily activities, groups may decide, "What now? Let’s run a dungeon for some fun."

2. What are the rewards of dungeons? What do I gain?

This is perhaps the most frequently asked question. Ultimately, everyone wants gold, right? More gold means more new items.

While dungeon drops are lower compared to other content, completing weekly dungeon achievements yields 3–4 gold. Other rewards include:

a. Materials and gold
b. Achievements
c. Tyria Master Points
d. Specific armor sets or rune/sigil items, obtained through dungeon tokens. (For example, if you want to play as a healer, you might need Monk runes, which can be purchased using dungeon tokens.)
e. Fun and entertainment

In conclusion, dungeons are great for new and mid-level players, but they are less appealing for late-game and hardcore players. In the future, adjustments may increase interest from other player segments as well.
