NA vs EU: Which Server Should You Really Pick?

Hey everyone! How’s it going? Everything good? Life treating you well? 😎 I thought I’d kick off this new post by annoying you with a few questions and just chatting a bit. Lately, I’ve been getting questions from all sorts of players, and even my own friends, so I figured, why not make a post about it?

There’s been a lot of chatter about servers in the game—especially WvW—and how things used to be kinda messy. But shoutout to the awesome folks at ArenaNet, they sorted it all out pretty cleanly recently. Big thanks to them! ❤️

Alright, so yeah, all servers are gone now, but I’ll dive into that more when I start covering WvW content. You’ll notice a “Region Selection” thing on the login screen, that’s where you pick your server.

A lot of questions I got were like: “NA or EU—which one’s better?” So let’s break it down together. I’ll also add my personal take based on what I’ve seen and the conversations I’ve had, and I’m sure you’ll agree with some of it. I’m splitting this topic into four sections, guys:

  1. Ping, Connection & Playability
  2. Gold, GEM Prices & Items/Materials
  3. PvE, PvP & WvW Gameplay
  4. Community & Player Communication

Let’s dive in!

1. Ping, Connection & Playability

If you live in the EU and play on an EU server—or NA and NA—you usually won’t have ping issues. Problems pop up when your connection is funky. This can make things annoying in PvE: imagine being a healer and your buffs hit the team late, or in raids/fractals you end up making things harder for your squad. In PvP, it could cost your team a win, and in WvW, you might suddenly find yourself alone while running behind a commander. Yep, spikes up to 400–500 ping happen. So the takeaway? EU players → EU servers, NA players → NA servers. It just keeps the game smoother for everyone.

2. Gold, GEM Prices & Items/Materials

Looking at the stats, there’s not a huge difference. NA players aren’t automatically rolling in gold, and EU players aren’t suddenly rich. Some hardcore vets do their crazy economic math—turning gold into silver, calculating 5–10 bakers’ worth of stuff—but that’s all personal strategy. Bottom line: don’t pick a server thinking, “Oh, I’ll make bank here!”

3. Gameplay

I’ve played both servers and experienced pretty much everything. EU’s my home base—I’ve been here for years—but PvE is pretty much the same across the board. Hardcore guilds exist on NA too, so overall, it’s similar. PvP? NA has some killer teams, EU too, but I’d say NA’s a bit ahead. WvW? It’s all about the commander and party following them at the right time. EU can compete with NA here, but NA edges out slightly in hardcore/endgame content.

4. Community & Communication

This is the best part. If you’re a newbie thinking, “Where did I land?”—this is the place for you. Guild Wars 2 has one of the smoothest communication flows in any MMORPG. Toxic players? Sure, they exist, but they’re rare. Is there a difference between EU and NA communities? Yep. EU players often gave me detailed feedback via email when I promoted my site there, which was super helpful. NA players? A bit younger audience overall—I noticed more “Yeah, I know this site, it’s lit” or random inappropriate jokes when I mentioned my guide.

Game-help? Great in both regions. Toxic behavior? Happens, usually from hardcore endgame vets, but again, it’s rare. Just pick a good guild, get social, and enjoy the game—region doesn’t matter that much.

Catch you all in my next post! Stay awesome! ✌️
