CRAFTING AND CRAFTING DISCIPLINES FOR BEGINNERS

GW2 Crafting & Professions Guide for Beginners

Crafting & Crafting Professions for Beginners in Guild Wars 2

Hey folks! 🙌 Just like every newbie, I was super hyped when I first started Guild Wars 2. The flowing combat system, the story, and the companions – I was hooked! Classic me, I made a character and jumped right in.

Being a beginner can be fun… and sometimes frustrating. Fun part? Everything is new, every scene and content feels like a first-time adventure. Frustrating part? You might miss open world meta events or bosses simply because you don’t know about them yet.

Anyway, I want to create beginner-friendly guides. We’ve hit month 4, and big thanks to everyone reading this. Making content for the site and YouTube is a lot of work, but seeing people benefit feels amazing.

Crafting Professions Overview

Today, I’ll give you tips about which professions to level up based on your class. In GW2, professions go from level 0 to 500:

  • Level 400 – craft Ascended items
  • Level 500 – craft Ascended & Legendary items

Crafting can get expensive, so check my video before crafting weapons or armor. [https://www.youtube.com/shorts/M0hOpsUiqBM]

10 Professions

  • Armorsmith
  • Artificer
  • Chef
  • Huntsman
  • Jeweler
  • Leatherworker
  • Scribe
  • Tailor
  • Weaponsmith
  • Handworker

Note: Chef and Handworker are mostly for endgame. Beginners usually don’t need them. Chef is for ascended food, Handworker is for homestead decoration (~8,000 gold cost).

Professions Explained

  • Armorsmith: Heavy armor classes (Warrior, Guardian, Revenant). Craft runes. Level 500 recommended.
  • Artificer: Craft personal weapons & sigils (Focus, Trident, Scepters).
  • Huntsman: Craft weapons & sigils (Shortbow, Longbow, Rifle, Pistol, Warhorn, Torch, Harpoon Gun).
  • Jeweler: Craft trinkets, rings, accessories. Level 400 for some legendary items.
  • Leatherworker: Medium armor classes (Thief, Engineer, Ranger). Craft runes. Level 500 recommended.
  • Scribe: Craft sigils, useful for legendary sigils in endgame.
  • Tailor: Light armor classes (Mesmer, Elementalist, Necro). Level 500 recommended.
  • Weaponsmith: Craft weapons (Axe, Dagger, Sword, Greatsword, Shield, Mace, Hammer, Spear). Level 500 recommended.

Which Professions Should You Learn?

Each character can learn 2 professions by default. Extra profession slots can be bought from the Gem Store. Switching professions costs 1 gold per switch, so watch your gold if switching often. Pick the professions that match your main class (Armorsmith, Leatherworker, Tailor) and level them to 500.

Pro Tips:
  • Focus on professions that support your main class first.
  • Don’t rush to learn endgame-only professions as a beginner.
  • Leveling crafting professions can be expensive; plan your gold wisely.
