WINTERSDAY FESTIVAL – Ho Ho Ho, Tyria is Snowy Again!

First of all, welcome to every single one of you — whether you’re a veteran commander with 40k AP or someone who just created their first tiny Asura yesterday.
Every week I keep coming back with fresh content and the latest retro-developments, because this world never stops evolving. We’ve been living in Tyria for years, and yes, we complain from time to time (who doesn’t?). But just like in real life, we humans love positive stuff and try to ignore the negative ones — it’s in our DNA. Tastes and colors are not up for debate: some love solo games, some are ARPG addicts, some live in MOBAs, some breathe strategy… and then there’s us — the ones who completely lost their hearts to Tyria.My personal mission? To build a friendly library for newcomers. I’m having an absolute blast doing it, and I have zero plans to stop anytime soon. We’ll see what the next years bring, but one thing is certain: www.gw2king.com will continue being the most beginner-friendly corner of the internet. I flipped the switch on the site on August 1st 2025 — so it’s only 4.5 months old — and we already passed 1600 unique visitors! The analytics graph is giving me all the good vibes; every day the numbers climb a little higher and my motivation goes BRRRRR like a Charr motorcycle.Important note: there is ZERO buying/selling on the site. Think of it as a cozy library where I combine my own writings with 13 years of in-game experience and serve it on a silver platter to new players. Ads and affiliate links might come in the future if we become successful — totally separate topic, fingers crossed!These days people only consume bite-sized videos and scroll through thousands of contents without realizing how much damage it does to the brain. Reading, on the other hand, is a wonderful activity… but who actually reads anymore? One of my secret goals is to make people learn by reading instead of just watching, because when you read → practice → understand the “why”, the joy multiplies by a hundred. You become aware of what you’re doing, and that awareness carries you much further.Back in the day we used to flip newspaper pages at home… that culture is pretty much extinct. Now the mentality is “just ask AI, it’ll tell you” and millions of brains are slowly turning into mashed potatoes. Remember: too much of anything is bad, even AI included!Alright, enough philosophy — let’s jump back into the snow!New Hero Jump Start (currently active!)
Quick reminder so nobody gets confused with the terminology:- Festivals (Halloween/Mad King, Wintersday, Super Adventure Box, Dragon Bash, etc.) → happen once a year, last ~30 days.
- Bonus Events (Fractal week, Dungeon week, PvP/WvW bonus, etc.) → repeat every few weeks, usually 7–14 days.
- Then there are special snowflakes like New Hero Jump Start — it comes once a year, lasts exactly 14 days, and sits in its own weird category. I call them “Special Events” and nobody can stop me.
Right now (December 9 – December 23, 2025) we have NHJ running!
What do you have to do? Talk to the Mist Stranger, activate the event, then complete 5 open-world events in each of the five level 1–15 starting zones (Queensdale, Plains of Ashford, Wayfarer Foothills, Metrica Province, Caledon Forest). That’s it. Takes 15–20 minutes if you have low-level alts, or you can just create new characters and enjoy the nostalgia.
Rewards? Dreambound exotic weapon skins that look absolutely gorgeous, a free 20-slot bag, and a juicy 14-day booster (+50% XP everywhere, +30% MF, +30% reward track progress).
Do it. Seriously. You’ll thank me when you’re running around with a snowy greatsword that sparkles like a unicorn on caffeine.
Wintersday Festival – Snowballs, Bells and Infinite Karma!
Is throwing snowballs actually fun? YES.
Should we replace all PvP matches with snowballs? Also YES.
Should we do raids with snowmen and candy canes? ArenaNet already said yes and I love them for it.
Wintersday 2025 is live from December 9, 2025 until January 6, 2026 — almost a full month of pure holiday chaos in Divinity’s Reach! The atmosphere is immaculate: snow everywhere, jingle bells ringing, Tixx’s airship floating above the city, and thousands of players turning the Crown Pavilion into a winter warzone.Favorite activities that you absolutely shouldn’t miss:- Snowball Mayhem → PvP but you only throw snowballs. Pure joy.
- Winter Wonderland → the jumping puzzle that makes you question your life choices (pro tip: don’t rage, laugh).
- Toypocalypse → defend the village from evil toys with your friends — basically a mini-raid with plushies.
- Bell Choir → musical rhythm game. Bring friends, blame the lag when you miss a note.
- Secret Lair of the Snowmen → strike mission with a cute plush tiger reward this year!
- Orphan gift running → the legendary “100k+ karma per day” farm if you have birthday boosters.
- Super Adventure Box
- Dragon Bash
- Halloween (Mad King)
- Wintersday (currently fighting for 3rd place)
A few words about Core Builds
Apparently you guys loved the Core Build series! I’m glad, because my goal has always been to help newcomers. I’ve finished the personal story so many times that I lost count, and I consider myself pretty decent with all 9 core professions. That’s why I decided to publish exactly nine core builds — one for each profession — and then stop.Why? Because meta builds change every 3 months and maintaining them alone would drive me insane. There are already amazing sites like Snowcrows, Hardstuck, MuklukLabs, etc. that do an incredible job with meta/end-game builds.GW2King will stay as the “first steps” library. Simple, clean, core-only. No confusion, no outdated benchmarks, no “why does my 2024 build do 12k DPS in 2025” drama.And please… don’t fall into the “I MUST BENCH 70K OR I’M USELESS” trap. The game becomes torture instead of joy. Just have fun, throw snowballs at your friends, and remember: in Tyria, the real endgame is the friends we made along the way (and maybe a couple of legendary weapons).That’s all for this week, commanders!
